Technology training program in Poland:

For the past 25 years, Poland has grown largely because of having a well qualified but cheap labour force

Being able to adopt technology and management skills from more advanced countries thanks to its very low starting point in 1989 – a consequence of the economic devastation wreaked by communist rule.

But now that GDP per capita is about two-thirds of the western European level, further gains are going to require a host of comprehensive reforms to be implemented over many years.

Ryszard Petru, head of the Polish Association of Economists, has sketched out two futures for Poland in a report recently presented to the country’s president.

Both scenarios predict Poland will be significantly wealthier in 2039 than it is today, in part because of €105 billion in structural and agricultural funds due to flow into Poland until 2020.
